In 2006 Quicksound had the honor of collaborating with the legendary Lionel Richie! Lionel has consistently been at the top of the charts since the late 1960’s. His career began in The Commodores writing hit ballads like “Easy”, “Three Times a Lady” and dance floor smash hits like “Brick House”.
He then went solo and had mega hits like “Hello” and “All Night Along” and co-wrote “We Are The World” with Michael Jackson,! He has toured the world, performed at the 1984 Olympics, written hit songs for Kenny Rogers, done duets with Diana Ross, won Grammy Awards and sold millions of records.
It was therefore an honor when Mr. Richie selected Quicksound’s producer Roberto Sam Screnci to co-write and co-produced songs for his acclaimed album “Coming Home”. Released in September 2006 on Def Jam Records, the album netted two Grammy Award Nominations including Best RnB Album. It was certified GOLD in the USA by the RIAA for selling more than 500,000 copies. The album charted in the top 10 in both Europe and the USA, reaching #3 on the Billboard RnB Charts, #6 in the Billboard 200, #8 in Germany and #9 in Switzerland.
Quicksound also worked on the single “All Around The World” which has become a staple in Lionel Richie’s live show and his biggest hit in over 10 years. The single was remixed by Bob Sinclar and released on Mercury Records. It became a top10 hit, reaching #6 in the US Hot Dance Music Charts and #13 in the Italian Singles Chart.
In total, Lionel Richie spent three months in Montreal working in the Quicksound studio. During this period, we produced many songs and had the privilege of learning from a Master. With over four decades of experience in the industry, Lionel generously shared his knowledge about the art of songwriting, music producing and surviving in the music business. It was a crash course in the process of how to craft a hit song. From the intro, to the hook, to how many bars of bridge you need before the chorus, Lionel taught us his secrets. From a production standpoint, he has worked closely with legendary producers like Quincy Jones and shared many studio tricks with us as well.
Sam has maintained a friendship with Lionel Richie ever since. They meet up for dinner whenever he is in town. Sam spent a week staying with him at his home in Beverly Hills. Here is a photo of them from 2012 when Lionel was performing live on television for “STAR ACADEMY” to promote his record “Tuskagee”. Quicksound looks forward to working with him again at some point in the future!
